After following a twitter friend’s link to a cute kitty gif, I decided to scroll through her Tumblr site a little more. Near the top was a post from President Obama’s campaign page, which I clicked on and got lost in reading for the next hour plus of my life.
I truly hope that President Obama wins the election for a second term, as I cannot even fathom Mitt Romney in the position. I’m not even American, but I can understand what they are going through, as I’m not currently a huge fan of our Conservative Stephen Harper government. I’m a liberal, and thank goodness those views at least held up when Harper tried to change our ruling on same-sex marriage. Now that Obama supports equality in marriage, Obamacare!!!, and women’s rights to their bodies, I can’t imagine anyone not voting for him (minus some devoutly religious people who somehow think he is ruining America). In my view, and the views of Democrats all over the United States, he is slowly, but surely, saving America.
Stephen Harper abolished our long-gun registry, he cut arts and culture funding throughout all of Canada, and he upped the charges against marijuana users with an already over-crowded jail system. It basically feels like we have our own form of George W. Bush in charge of our Conservative Government. I can somewhat understand what it feels like to be American right now and to be desperate for a win by Obama. I can’t wait until we have someone of his caliber to come deal with Canada.
Now there may be people who read this and don’t believe in my political viewpoints, but as my friend said last night…sometimes we just need to be less offended by these things, as very few people are going to be on exactly the same page.
I guess we’ll see what happens when the votes get counted!
